From 2003 he competed in the British Formula 3 championship for two seasons. After finishing 16th overall in the first season, he was twelfth overall in 2004.

After three years in British Formula 3, Fauzy switched to the newly founded GP2 series in 2005 and started as a team mate of José María López for the French DAMS team. He did not keep up with his teammates and finished 24th overall at the end of the season without having scored any points. After taking part in four races of the 2005/2006 A1GP season in winter , he joined Super Nova Racing in 2006 together with López . Fauzy again failed to keep up with López and finished 24th overall with no points at the end of the season.

Despite poor performance in the GP2 series, Fauzy was hired as Formula 1 test driver by Spyker F1 in 2007 . Parallel to his Formula 1 involvement, Fauzy started for Cram Competition in the Formula Renault 3.5 in 2007 . With two second places as the best results, Fauzy finished eleventh overall at the end of the season. In winter, Fauzy started in six races of the 2007/2008 A1GP season . He also returned to Super Nova Racing and started the first season of the GP2 Asia series . In contrast to his results in the GP2 series, he was one of the front runners in the GP2 Asia series and won a race in Citeureup . At the end of the season he finished fourth overall.

After the first two Formula Renault 3.5 racing weekends, Fauzy was signed by Fortec Motorsport to replace Julian Theobald . With a third place he finished 18th overall at the end of the season. In winter Fauzy started in twelve of 14 races of the A1GP season 2008/2009 . With a victory that he achieved in the first race, the Malaysian A1 team finished sixth overall at the end of the season. In 2009 , Fauzy stayed with Fortec Motorsport, who had renamed themselves Mofaz Racing during the season , and contested his third season in Formula Renault 3.5. Although he only won one race on the Hungaroring , at the end of the season he secured the runner-up title behind Bertrand Baguette .

For the 2010 Formula 1 season , Fauzy was hired as a test and reserve driver for Lotus Racing . In this role he made his Formula 1 weekend debut at his home race, the Malaysian Grand Prix , and drove the first free practice session. In total, it was used on five Grand Prix weekends. In the GP2 series, Fauzy returned to Super Nova Racing in 2011 and started racing again. He participated in both the GP2 Asia and the GP2 series. In the GP2 Asia series he was 14th. In the GP2 series , he finished 18th overall with a fifth place as the best result. Within the team, he lost the duel against his teammates Luca Filippi and Adam Carroll , who only contested half a season each. In addition, Fauzy took part in the Formula Renault 3.5 for the family racing team Mofaz Racing since the fifth race weekend . With a third place as the only point result, he was 22nd place in the drivers' standings at the end of the season, making him the team's worst driver.
