Diego Nunes (born July 12, 1986 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian racing driver .

Career

Diego Nunes began his motorsport career in the Brazilian Formula Renault , in which he took part in all races in 2003 and 2004. In 2002 Nunes drove a few races. In 2004 he was ninth overall. In the following two years, Nunes also took part in some races of the Brazilian Formula Renault. In 2005, Diego Nunes switched to the South American Formula 3 and was fourth in the overall standings. A year later Nunes started half of the races from pole position , but he only managed to win one race, so he finished third in the overall standings. Nunes drove for Bassani Racing both seasons .

In 2006 Nunes also competed in two Euroseries 3000 races . In 2007 he moved completely to Europe and drove the entire season of the Euroseries 3000. He managed to win four races and he was runner-up behind Davide Rigon . He drove both seasons for the Euroseries 3000 team of the former Formula 1 racing team Minardi .

In 2008 , Nunes was signed by Adrián Campos for the first season of the GP2 Asia series . After the first race weekend he left Campos Grand Prix and switched to David Price Racing , where he replaced the dismissed Andy Souček . Nunes got two points and was 19th overall. Nunes also started for David Price Racing in the European GP2 series . His team mate was Michael Herck , who was replaced by Giacomo Ricci and Andy Soucek on the first three race weekends . His best result was fourth place in the sprint race on the new Valencia Street Circuit . In the overall standings, Nunes took 22nd place with three points.

In the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/2009 , Nunes started alongside Roldán Rodríguez for Piquet GP . After the Brazilian got no points in the first races, he won the main race on the last two race weekends and finally finished eighth in the overall standings. In the European GP2 series, Nunes started in the 2009 season as a team-mate of the Dutchman Giedo van der Garde for iSport International . With a podium placement, he finished 20th overall at the end of the season.

In winter 2009/2010 Nunes took part in the first run of the GP2 Asia series for the Malaysian Meritus team. He was then replaced by Alexander Rossi . At the end of the season he finished 28th overall.
