The following year Rodríguez stayed in the Spanish Formula Junior and secured the championship title. He was also active in Formula 3 in Spain . There he was 14th overall. In 2004 the young Spaniard started again in two series: the Spanish Formula 3, in which he finished eleventh, and the World Series by Nissan , where he finished 22nd at the end of the season. Rodríguez was only active for half a year in both series. In 2005 Rodríguez stayed in Spanish Formula 3 and was seventh in the overall standings for Campos Grand Prix . Rodríguez also tested for the Formula 1 team Minardi , for which he competed in the Euroseries 3000 the following year and was sixth overall. In addition, Rodríguez took part again in the Spanish Formula 3, in which he reached second place in the championship.

In 2007 Rodríguez switched to the GP2 series for Minardi Piquet Sports . At the side of Alexandre Negrão he was finally with 14 points 17th in the overall standings. His best place was third in the sprint race in Budapest . After the season, Rodríguez signed a contract as a winter test driver with Formula 1 team Force India , but could not prevail in the shoot-out for second place next to Adrian Sutil .

At the beginning of 2008, Rodríguez started on the last race weekend of the newly founded GP2 Asia series for FMSI as a replacement for Michael Herck, who was injured in the hand . So he drove for the Giancarlo Fisichellas team , to which he was defeated in the shoot-out for a Formula 1 cockpit in winter. For the GP2 series in 2008 , Rodríguez was also hired by FMSI at short notice, as the team split from Andy Souček . In the season Rodríguez had three teammates in Adrián Vallés , Adam Carroll and Marko Asmer . Rodríguez was only able to score points on two race weekends, but then managed to score points in both races. At the last race of the season in Monza , Rodríguez achieved his best result in the GP2 series with second place. As in the previous year, Rodríguez scored 14 points, but this time he was 13th overall.

For the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/2009 Rodríguez returned to his former team, which was now called Piquet GP. His teammate was Diego Nunes . At the first race in Shanghai , Rodríguez was able to start from pole position and also win thanks to a mistake by Kamui Kobayashi who had overtaken him at the beginning of the race. It was the first victory for Rodríguez in the GP2 series (both Europe and Asia) of his career. One point behind runner-up Jérôme D'Ambrosio , Rodríguez took third place in the overall standings at the end of the season.

The Spaniard also competed in the 2009 European GP2 series as a team-mate of Alberto Valerio for Piquet GP. With two second places as the best result, he finished eleventh overall at the end of the season. He also started two races in the Euroseries 3000 , in which he scored a point. On the first race weekend of the GP2 Asia Series season 2009/2010 he started as Will Bratt's team-mate for Scuderia Coloni, the successor team to FMSI. However, he was replaced by his former team-mate Valerio after the first race weekend. At the end of the season he finished 23rd overall. In 2010 Rodríguez will not start in any racing series and take a break.
