Jonathan "Jonny" Cocker (born August 24, 1986 in Guisborough ) is a British racing driver .

Racing career

Jonny Cocker celebrated his first success in motorsport at the age of 16. He finished fourth overall in the T Cars , a British touring car series for drivers between the ages of 14 and 17. In 2003 the professional career began with competing in the British Porsche Carrera Cup and also here fourth place in the final standings. In 2004, at the age of 18, he became the youngest overall winner in the British GT Championship , where he won the championship in a Porsche 996 GT3-RSR ahead of Tim Sugden , Nathan Kinch and Andrew Kirkaldy . A year later he became champion in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia .

In 2006 Cocker and Paul Drayson began working together . The British nobleman and politician became the young driver's mentor. In addition to his entrepreneurial and political activities, Drayson was the owner of the motorsport racing team Paul Drayson Racing . For this racing team, Cocker competed in the domestic GT championship in the American and European Le Mans Series . In 2008 he made his debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring and in 2009 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . In 2010 he was third overall in the LMP class of the American Le Mans Series on a Lola B09 / 60 , with an overall victory in the Road America 4-hour race .

After the end of Drayson's racing activities, Cocker switched to JMW Motorsport, which used vehicles in the GT classes. In 2012 , he won the GT class of the European Le Mans Series in a Ferrari 458 Italia GTC . Until the end of the 2017 season, he drove regularly in the domestic GT championship, where races in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 are planned for 2018 .
