David Martínez León (born December 8, 1981 in Monterrey , Nuevo León ) is a retired Mexican racing car driver .

Career

After Martínez started his motorsport career in karting , he switched to formula racing . In 1996 he won the Mexican Formula 2 championship title. Then he started a season in the Mexican Formula 3000. From 1999 to 2001 he was active in the Mexican Formula 3 championship . After finishing fourth in the first year, he came third twice. In 2002 he competed in the Mexican Formula Renault and won the championship title. Martínez also took part in a race in the Atlantic Championship this season and finished 31st overall.

In 2003 Martínez competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series and finished fourth in the drivers' championship. In 2004 he moved to Europe and started for Cram Competition in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup . With a fifth place as the best result, he finished the season in 17th place overall. In 2005 Martínez returned to North America and competed for US RaceTronics in the Atlantic Championship. Although he was denied a win, with four podium finishes he ended the season in fifth place in the drivers' standings. After taking part in four A1 Grand Prix races for the Mexican team in winter 2005/2006 , he returned to US RaceTronics in the Atlantic Championship in 2006 and was fifth in the championship. He also replaced the injured Paul Tracy at Forsythe Racing at the Champ Car season finale . He finished in ninth place ahead of his teammate Buddy Rice and finished 22nd overall. In 2007 he took part in two more champ car races for Forsythe Racing and finished the season in 20th place. He did not take part in any other races this season.

In 2008 Martínez first took part in the season finale of the A1 Grand Prix. Then he took for Forsythe / Pettit Racing at a race of the IndyCar Series in part. The race was also the last race of the Champ Car, which had ceased racing for the 2008 season. Martínez crossed the finish line in eighth place and was 41st in the overall standings at the end of the season. In 2009 the racing driver only competed in one race in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . He was 45th in the DP ranking. In 2010 Martínez took part in two races of the Indy Lights for Genoa Racing . He finished 25th in the drivers' championship.
