Flayosc is a French municipality with 4294 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Var in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of Flayosc in the Arrondissement of Draguignan .

geography

Flayosc is only a few kilometers west of the sub-prefecture of Draguignan in a fertile, slightly hilly landscape. The area is irrigated by the three streams Florieille , Rimalte and Pontlachade .

history

In the nearby current district of Le Flayosquet there was a Roman necropolis . There was another necropolis, living quarters and streets in Saint-Pierre-de-Lavenon and just a short distance away in La Basse Vaure.

The place was named Flaiosc as early as 1050 . In 1388, Flayosc was under the rule of Villeneuve, which was given to the lords of Clumanac and Périer in 1657 and established as a marquisate in 1678. Since the change of rulership of 1657 was reversed, the Villeneuve also took over the newly established marquisate.

In 1589 the place was robbed and burned down by La Valette. 16 residents and the landlord were slain.

In May 1792, under the leadership of the mayor, the population destroyed the castle. The rule fled to Strasbourg .

Attractions

The picturesque town center with its medieval streets is located around the extensive church building on a slight hill. On the Place de la République there are fountains marked as Monument historique

A 13th century oil mill can be seen in Le Flayosquet.
