Hydrology

At the Autrey gauge - just before the estuary - a hydrological station has been measuring the flow of the river since 1969, which is given as an average of 1.44 m³ per second. Seasonally, the discharge fluctuates between 2.3 and 3.3 m³ per second in winter and spring and only 118 liters per second on hot August days.

The monthly mean discharge (MQ) of the Brénon in m³ / s, measured at the Autrey hydrological station; Data calculated from the values for the years 1969–2007

The highest value was measured at 70.2 m³ per second during a flood on December 30, 2001. The average rainfall in the Brénon catchment is 328 millimeters, which is roughly the average for all of France.

The ground relief rises more steeply on the left bank of the river and is more structured than on the right bank. The section of the river near Fécocourt is an exception - here the Brénon valley forms a cut about 100 meters deep.
