history

The municipality of Roquebrune-sur-Argens can look back on a thousand years of history. In the 11th century it was built under the Latin name Rocca bruna , which refers to the rock on which it was built.

In 973, William I of Provence drove out the Saracens who had invaded the region in the previous century. From then on, Roquebrune was able to spend the entire Middle Ages safely in isolation under the protection of its walls and even survived epidemics like the plague . In the 15th century, the fortifications were expanded in times of economic prosperity.

With the construction of the Argens Bridge in 1829, the place was connected to the cross connection to Italy.
