history

In pre-Christian times, the area around Puget was settled by the Ligurian people of the Oxybians , who, according to Pliny, made their living primarily through piracy and therefore around 150 BC. Were subjugated by the Romans.

When the Saracens came to Fréjus around 940, the place called Villa Pogito was destroyed.

After the expulsion of the Saracens by William I of Provence , the place was rebuilt. March 6, 990 is now officially the date of foundation. On this day Wilhelm Riculfe, the Bishop of Fréjus , handed over half of the town, determined its boundaries and stipulated the tithes to be paid .

Around the year 1100, the huge castle Castrum de Pugéto was built in Puget at the site of today's viewpoint . In 1203 rulership over all of Puget was placed in the hands of Bishop Raimond de Capella .
