The A1 Team Italy ( English stylization: A1Team.Italy ) was the Italian national team in the A1GP series.
history
A1 Team Italy was founded by the former Formula 1 driver Piercarlo Ghinzani , whose racing team Team Ghinzani also equipped the team from the start.
In the first season the team was mediocre. It was the first points with seventh place in the feature race in Estoril by Enrico Toccacelo retract. In total, the team achieved nine points, including a second place in the sprint race in Dubai and a third place in the sprint race in Monterrey . It ended the season in 14th place with 46 points.
The team saw an increase in the following season . The highlight of the season was Enrico Toccacelo’s victory in the main race in Beijing , after he had already celebrated third place in the sprint race. He also achieved two more third places on the last race weekend at Brands Hatch . The team finished the season in seventh place overall with 52 points.
In the third season , the team experienced a severe slump. Only five points results, including three eighth places as the best result (two of them by Edoardo Piscopo , one by Toccacelo), meant the 18th overall position with twelve points.
The fourth season was marginally better for the team. The highlight was Vitantonio Liuzzi’s first pole position for the sprint race in Portimão , which was followed by fourth place as the best result of the season. With six more points, the team finished the season in 16th place overall with 17 points.
A1 Team Italy took part in all 39 race weekends of the A1GP series.
driver
A1 Team Italy fielded 14 different drivers on race weekends, seven of whom also took part in the races themselves.
