Fabio Onidi

Fabio Onidi (born March 9, 1988 in Milan ) is an Italian racing driver . He competed in the Auto GP (formerly Euroseries 3000 ) from 2008 to 2011 . In 2008 he was runner-up in this series. In 2012 he started in the GP2 series .

Career

Onidi began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 , where he was active until 2003. Among other things, he won the Italian ICA Junior Championship in 2003. In 2004 he moved into the single-seater racing and finished eighth in the German Formula BMW . In the following season Onidi stayed in the German Formula BMW and finished his second season in eleventh place overall. He also finished 17th in the British Formula Renault winter series . In 2006 Onidi switched to the British Formula Renault, in which he finished eleventh in the overall classification. In 2007 he competed in both the Northern European Formula Renault, in which he finished ninth overall with two podium finishes, and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , in which he was 20th. He also finished third in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault.

In 2008 Onidi switched to the Euroseries 3000 for the Italian racing team GP Racing . With two wins and a further four podium finishes, he was runner- up behind Nicolas Prost . After being in winter 2008/2009 two races for the Italian team in the A1GP had completed series, he moved within the Euro Series 3000 to FMS International , which during the season in Coloni Motorsport renamed. He was able to win two races again and at the end of the season he finished third in the overall standings. In 2010 Onidi contested his third season in the championship, which has now been renamed Auto GP . Starting for the Lazarus team , he finished eighth overall with four third places as the best results. In 2011 Onidi stayed with Team Lazarus in the Auto GP. He suffered a right hand fracture in an accident in Donington . However, he did not miss any event and started again just two weeks after his accident. With a win, he finished the season in fifth place overall. He prevailed against his team mate Fabrizio Crestani with 99 to 92 points. In 2012 Onidi switched to Scuderia Coloni in the GP2 series . While his teammates Stefano Coletti and Luca Filippi achieved a podium finish and a victory, a sixth place was Onidi's best result. He finished the season in 20th place.
