Christian Montanari (born June 21, 1981 in San Marino ) is a San Marino racing driver . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 (formerly Formula Renault V6 Eurocup ) from 2004 to 2006 . In 2007 and 2008 he was active in the FIA GT Championship . From 2009 to 2011 he started in the Superstars Series .

Career

Montanari began his motorsport career in 1997 in kart racing , in which he was active until 2001. In 2001 he made his debut in formula racing and took part in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault . In the following season he started in the main series of the Italian Formula Renault and finished sixth overall. In addition, he took part in five of nine races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup season and finished 20th in the drivers' standings. He also drove a run of the Euro Formula 3000 , in which he scored a point.

In 2003 Montanari drove for Coloni in the Italian Formula 3 championship . He won three races and was runner-up with 98 points behind Fausto Ippoliti with 101 points. He also made his debut in the season in the international Formula 3000 championship . For Coloni he started at the season finale. In 2004 Montanari started the season for Coloni in the Formula 3 Euro Series . After the first two racing weekends, on which he remained without points, the team dropped out of the series. Montanari finally joined Victory Engineering and entered the last half of the season in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup . He won two races and was tenth in the drivers' championship.

In 2005 Montanari stayed in the racing series, which together with the World Series by Nissan became the Formula Renault 3.5 . He started together with Markus Winkelhock for Draco Multiracing USA . While Winkelhock was third overall with three wins, Montanari finished the season with a win in Monte Carlo in eighth place in the championship. In 2006 Montanari and Gregory Franchi formed the driver duo of the Prema Powerteam in the Formula Renault 3.5. With a victory at the Nürburgring , Montanari improved to seventh place in the drivers' standings and thus prevailed within the team against Franchi, who was 25th.

In 2007 Montanari left formula racing and switched to GT racing. For the Vitaphone Racing Team he competed in the FIA GT Championship . He won a race and, together with his team-mate Miguel Ramos, was fourth in the GT1 classification. In 2008 Montanari started for AF Corse and finished fourth in the GT2 classification of the FIA ​​GT Championship. He also made his debut in the Le Mans 24-hour race . His team didn't reach the goal. Moreover Montanari returned temporarily to Formula racing back and took for the Italian team on a rookie training of A1GP part. In 2009 Montanari was without a permanent racing cockpit. For Team Farnbacher he started in the 24-hour race of Le Mans and two races in the Le Mans Series , where he achieved a podium finish in the LMGT2 classification. He also went to two races in the International Superstars Series and achieved a second and a third place. In addition, Montanari took part in one race of the Grand-Am Sports Car Series each year from 2007 to 2009 .

In 2010 Montanari competed in several races in the Superstars Series. Third place was his best result. He was 16th in the Italian and 20th in the international ranking. In 2011 he again contested a few races in the Superstars Series. Third place was again his best position. He finished 14th in the Italian ranking and 16th in the international ranking.
