Thomas Biagi (born May 7, 1976 in Bologna ) is an Italian racing driver .

Career

Thomas Biagi began his racing career in kart racing in the late 1980s . Via the Formula Alfa Boxer, he came to the Italian Formula 3 Championship in 1994 , which he finished in 1995 after two race victories in fifth overall. From the end of the 1995 to 1998 season he competed in the international Formula 3000 championship without achieving any notable success. During his debut race at Magny-Cours in 1995 , he had a collision with Marco Campos in which the Brazilian was killed.

In 1999 Biagi returned to the Italian Formula 3000 championship, where he was second in the championship in 2001.

The Italian was and is far more successful in sports car racing. In 2003 he won the GT class of the FIA GT Championship together with Matteo Bobbi in a Ferrari 550 Maranello of the BMS Scuderia Italia . He repeated this success in 2007 when he won the driver's title in the GT1 class on a Maserati MC12 . In 2008 he drove a Ferrari F430 in the GT2 class for AF Corse . In 2009 he started both in the FIA ​​GT Championship and in the Le Mans Series . While he drove a Le Mans prototype from the Racing Box racing team in the LMS throughout the year , his team switched between Matech and Luc Alphand Aventures in the FIA ​​GT at the halfway point of the year . In addition, at the end of the year he started the 6-hour race in Vallelunga in the Lola by Racing Box, which he won with Filippo Francioni and Edoardo Piscopo .

In 2012 Biagi won the Italian GT Championship as a private driver together with his team-mate Stefano Colombo. At the same time he won the traditional BMW Sports Cup, and as a reward he was given the chance to test in the BMW M3 DTM .
