Andrea Piccini

Andrea Piccini (born December 12, 1978 in Sansepolcro ) is an Italian racing driver .

Career

Piccini's career began in karting in 1994 . He gained his first formula racing experience in 1995 and 1996 in the Formula Europe Boxer and the Formula Opel Lotus. In 1997 he took part in the German Formula Opel Lotus Championship, where he was rookie of the year with one pole position and four podium places . In 1998 he drove another season in the Formula Opel Lotus and finished the season in third.

In 1999 and 2000 he drove in the international Formula 3000 championship.

In 2001 he was a test driver in Formula 1 for the European Minardi F1 team . For this team he also started as a driver in Formula 3000 in 2001. From 2002 to 2008 he drove in the FIA GT Championship . In 2009 Piccini switched to the Le Mans Series and now drove a Le Mans prototype made by Lola for the Italian racing team Racing Box . In 2010 Piccini stayed in the Le Mans Series, but now started for Racing Box in the LMP2 category with his younger brother Giacomo . In the 2011 Nürburgring 24-hour race he was supposed to compete with Marcel Fässler , Marc Basseng and Frank Stippler in an Audi R8 LMS, but the Italian was not used.
