Giacomo Piccini , also Pecini , Pizzini and Latinized Picinus , first name also Gianjacopo (* around 1617 in Venice ; † after 1669 there ) was an Italian graphic artist, engraver and etcher.

Live and act

Piccini was part of an Italian family of artists. His brother Guglielmo, with whom he is often confused because of the same initials, was also an engraver. He taught his daughter Isabella Piccini (1644-1734) continued the tradition, even after she went to the convent in Santa Croce as a nun in 1666 . In addition to Isabella, he had three sons, Francesco (Spitier in Padova), Girolamo (painter in Padova) and Galiazzo Piccini. According to Rodolfo Gallo, Piccini died in 1660. In a document dated November 20, 1663 it can be seen that he had already died at this point and that his 19-year-old daughter Isabella suffered from this loss and the Doge of Venice for help he searched:

“Tra l'angustie nelle quali la morte del Genitore, lasciò me Isabella figlia del qm Giacomo Piccini, […]”

"Because of the hardship into which the death of my parents left me, Isabella, daughter of qm Giacomo Piccini, [...]"

The year of death is uncertain, according to Bryan's dictionary of painters and engravers , that Zani wrote that he was still active in 1669, but only works up to 1655 are known as works. This source also says Isabella was the daughter of Guglielmo Piccini and therefore his niece.

“Piccini, Guglielmo, was the brother of Giacomo Piccini, […]. He had a daughter, Isabella Piccini, who was a nun, […] ”

“Piccini, Guglielmo, was the brother of Giacomo Piccini, […]. He had a daughter, Isabella Piccini, who was a nun [...] "

Piccini made portrait copperplate engravings from his own drawings, but mainly transferred templates from Italian painters into copperplate engravings and etchings. Drawings by him can be found in the Museo Correr in Venice. One of his works is a portrait of Santorio Santorio . Some copper engravings are printed in the work Le glorie de gli incogniti from 1647.

For the anatomical works of Cecilio Folli , he made very precise images for the time, such as the internal organs of the ear for Follis Nova auris internae delineatio from 1645.
