Luis Miguel Díaz Castell (born December 1, 1977 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican racing driver .

Career in motorsport

After starting out in karting , Díaz's monoposto career began in 1997 in the Mexican Formula 3 championship. In 1998, after six victories this season, he won the overall ranking of this championship. He came to the United States in the early 2000s and raced in the Atlantic Championship and the Indy Lights . The permanent switch to the Champ Car series did not succeed despite a few deployments.

In 2004 Díaz switched to sports car racing . For Chip Ganassi Racing he drove a Lexus Riley in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series and finished the season in 10th place in the overall standings (champion Massimiliano Papis ). 2005 (behind the overall winners Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor ) and 2006 (behind Jörg Bergmeister ) each achieved second place in the final classification of the championship.

In 2005 he was a member of the Mexican team that finished 11th in the A1GP series . From 2007 , he drove in the American Le Mans Series for the team of his friend and compatriot Adrián Fernández . In 2009 the duo won the overall ranking in the LMP2 class. this year he finished the Sebring 12-hour race in third place in the final standings. His only appearance so far at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was in 2012 , when the HPD ARX-03b rolled out on the racetrack due to a lack of petrol and failed.

By the end of the 2016 season, he celebrated nine overall and 15 class wins in 102 sports car starts.
