Hideki Noda ( Japanese 野 田 英 樹 , Noda Hideki ; born March 7, 1969 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese car racing driver .

Career

Hideki Noda made a racing career that was atypical for a Japanese car racing driver. In contrast to almost all of his compatriots who found their way into Formula 1 and who went through the junior series in Japan, Noda contested his first races in Europe. In 1989 he drove in the British Vauxhall Championship and in 1990 moved to Ralt in the British Formula 3 Championship . In 1991 he celebrated his first victory in this championship with the success at Silverstone .

Three years in Formula 3000 followed , without Noda being able to achieve many countable results. Once, at the championship run in Enna in 1994, he finished third on the podium. Nevertheless, he got a commitment in Formula 1 at the end of the year when he contested three races for Gérard Larrousse's team . The finish was not possible with the inferior Larrousse LH94 , but Noda, classified as slow by the experts, surprised with an appealing performance.

Remaining in Formula 1 for the 1995 season failed because of the abandonment of Simtek , where Noda had signed a preliminary contract. Noda switched to the Indy Lights series and in 1997 was the first Japanese to win a monoposto race organized by CART . He triumphed in the Portland race.

In 1998 Noda went back to Japan and drove for the team of Kazuyoshi Hoshino in Formula Nippon and in the Japanese GT Championship . After a few races in the Indy Racing League and an engagement in the A-1 Grand Prix series , Noda switched to the Le Mans prototypes . Starting in 2006, he regularly competed for Zytek in the Japan Le Mans Challenge , and also drove in a few selected races in the Le Mans Series . In 2008, Noda made his debut at the 24-hour race at Le Mans in an open-top Lola from Kruse-Schiller-Motorsport.

family

Hideki Noda has two daughters and one son. The younger daughter Juju got into motorsport very early as a racing driver. In April 2017, at the age of 11, she won the opening race of the Japanese Formula U17 championship and has been competing in the Danish Formula 4 championship since 2020.
