The 42nd 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , also ADAC Internationales 1000KM-Rennen, Nürburgring , took place on August 17th, 2008 on the Nürburgring and was the fourth round of the Le Mans Series of this year.

The race

At the race at the Nürburgring, a remarkable streak of sporty victories continued. Since debuting at the Monza 1000 km race in 2007 , the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP's chassis had won nine Le Mans Series races in a row. In the Eifel , the tenth overall victory in a row followed with a double victory. For the race at the Ring, Peugeot registered two racing cars with two drivers each. In preparation for the 24-hour race at Le Mans , the French team entered the Spa-Francorchamps race with three drivers per vehicle. Jacques Villeneuve and Alexander Wurz were therefore absent from the Nürburgring. The regular cast were in the car with the number 7 Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gené and in the car with the number 7 Pedro Lamy and Stéphane Sarrazin . A third Peugeot was only registered in Le Mans. Franck Montagny , Ricardo Zonta and Christian Klien drove their 908 HDi FAP to third place overall.

The strongest opponents of the Peugeots were those of Joest Racing used Audi R10 TDI , driven by Alexandre Premat , Mike Rockenfeller , Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello . Over the distance of 1000 kilometers, the Peugeots proved to be the faster Le Mans prototypes . Neither the Peugeots nor the Audis had any technical problems and unplanned pit stops and at the finish line the 908 HDi FAP had a complete lap ahead of the Joest Audis. The overall victory was primarily determined by the shorter fuel and tire change stops on Lamy and Sarrazin 's cars, who had been 16 seconds behind their teammates at the finish. At the start of the race, Stefan Mücke and Jan Charouz were able to keep up with the racing speed of the two Audis in a Lola B08 / 60 with a 6-liter V12 engine from Aston Martin . For a while, Stefan Mücke was even third behind the Peugeots. At the finish, after a few unplanned pit stops, it was enough for fifth place overall.

The LMP2 class was dominated by the Porsche RS Spyder . Jos Verstappen and Jeroen Bleekemolen in their RS Spyder had a four-lap lead over the second-placed LMP2 racing car, a Pescarolo 01 driven by Pierre Ragues and Matthieu Lahaye . The Embassy WF01 achieved the best result of the season so far, ranking 11th overall. The big GT class was won by Antonio García and Tomáš Enge in the Aston Martin DBR9 . The GT2 car race ended with the success of Rob Bell and Gianmaria Bruni in the Ferrari F430 GTC .
