Roland Binder

Roland Binder (born February 25, 1940 in Esslingen ) is a former German racing driver .

Career

Roland Binder started his racing career in formula racing . In 1967 and 1968 he competed in a number of Formula 3 races with a Lotus 41 . From 1970 to 1975 and 1977 he drove various racing cars in the Formula 2 European Championship . He achieved his best season placement there in 1973 with 19th place in a Brabham BT36 . He had his last starts in formula racing in 1980 in the French and German Formula 3 championships .

In 1977 Binder entered the 2nd division of the Interseries with a Lola T294 . From 1978 to 1984 he drove there with Lola T390 and Lola T296 racing cars. He celebrated his first overall race victory in Zolder in 1981. That year and the following season he also won the Interserial Championship. In 1985 and 1986 he drove a Persy 85-01 , with which he was able to secure his third Interserien title in 1985. In the 1986 season he won the championship title in the 2nd division. From 1987 to 1991 he started with a Persy PF2 and a Ralt RT2 in the 2nd division of the Interseries. In 1990 he achieved his last major success in motorsport with third place in the annual ranking.

At the same time, from 1979 to 1983, Binder also competed in some races for the endurance world championship . There he mostly drove in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring and one race each in 1983 at Brands Hatch and Kyalami . His best result in this racing series was the S2.0 class victory in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1979 together with Peter Groh in a Lola T390.

In 1982 and 1983 he contested a few races in the DRM with a Lola T296 . Since 1985 the DRM season consisted mainly of runs from the Interseries, he received not only the Interseries but also points in the DRM and thus achieved a tenth place in the DRM ranking.

At the end of the 1991 season he ended his motorsport career.
