Rolf Götz

Rolf Götz (born May 10, 1943 , † October 7, 2008 ) was a German racing driver.

Career

Rolf Götz started his racing career in touring car motorsport in 1963. In the same year he achieved his first podium finish in third place in the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM) in Trier with a Porsche 356 Carrera . In this racing series he drove a number of races in a Porsche 356 Carrera in 1964 and in a Porsche 914/6 in 1970 , which he regularly finished with top ten placements.

In 1973 Götz switched to the Interseries and used a McLaren M8E in the 1st division there until 1975 . From 1976 to 1978 he started with a Chevron B23 / 26 in the 2nd division. From the following year he entered the inter-series races with a Chevron B31 and was able to celebrate his first class victory at the Nürburgring in the same year. In 1985 he replaced the Chevron B31 with a March 832 CanAm with which he won the Interserien title in the 2nd division in a row in 1988, 1989 and 1990. In the 1991 season he switched to a March 88B, which he drove in the Interseries until the end of his career in 1993.

Götz contested a few endurance races in the sports car world championship from 1980 to 1984 . There he started with Chevron B31 and Lola T296 in group S2.0 and group 6 . From 1983 he drove with the URD C81 and later with the Rieger CJ 84 Group C racing car. His best result in the racing series was together with John Blanckley in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1980 the S2.0 class victory.

In the German racing championship (DRM) it went to the start in 1983 and 1985. In 1983 he drove a total of two races with Hockenheim and Mainz-Finthen , which he finished in seventh place. In 1985 some interseries races were included in the DRM. With third place he achieved his best race result in the 300 km race on the Nürburgring. In that year he was able to place himself on the 10th place in the season's overall ranking.
