Oliver Schimpf (born January 22, 1964 in Braunschweig ) is a German engineer and automobile manager.

Life

Schimpf studied vehicle technology at the Technical University in Braunschweig. He introduced carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) as a new lightweight material for helmets in automobile racing. Since 2004, CFRP has been mandatory in Formula 1 in standard 8860-2004 from the FIA automobile association . For the helmet manufacturer Schuberth GmbH (Magdeburg) he developed the Formula 1 project from 2000 in collaboration with Michael Schumacher and Ferrari . Also on his comeback with Mercedes GP Petronas , Schumacher wore high-tech helmets from the Schuberth brand. In the serious accident of Felipe Massa (Ferrari) in Hungary in 2009 , the structure of the helmet and the bulletproof visor withstood the impact of an 833 gram metal spring at a speed of 270 km / h. Schimpf was initially head of development at Schuberth and later a member of the board. He developed the first flip-up helmet with an integrated sun visor. Schimpf is named as the inventor in 30 patents for head protection and fiber composite. He is also the holder of novel patents for reducing rotational accelerations in accidents with head injuries.

In 2005, the development company Schuberth Engineering AG, of which Schimpf was CEO from 2002, was named the TOP 100 of the most innovative German companies. Schimpf was a DIN advisory board for personal protective equipment from 2006 to 2008. From 2009 to 2012 he was managing director of the companies IFA-Technologies and IFC-Composite. Since 2013 he has been the managing director of IFA Rotorion Powertrain GmbH. Under his direction including the lightweight car seat was made fiber composite of the IFA-Rotorion Holding constructed. Schimpf developed the first fiber composite cardan shaft in the world from renewable raw materials ("bioprop"). It was presented at the 2011 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. Schimpf is the author of the book “ Aerodynamics of the Automobile ”.

Under his leadership, IFA Rotorion Powertrain was named “Factory of the Year 2013”. The prize is awarded annually by the business newspaper "Produktion" and the management consultancy AT Kearney (USA / Chicago).

In 2016, Oliver Schimpf, as a representative of the Mast entrepreneurial family, founded “72Stagpower” together with his father Eckhard with the aim of allowing the spirit of the legendary “Jägermeister Racing Team” to live on.
