Friedrich Hopp
Friedrich Ernst Hopp (born August 23, 1789 in Brno , † June 23, 1869 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor and writer .
Life
Hopp was the son of a factory worker. First he embarked on a commercial career, worked as a traveling salesman and accountant and worked as an amateur actor . From 1815 he was engaged at various theaters in Brno , Graz , Bratislava and Baden until he got a job at the Vienna Theater in Josefstadt in 1822 . From 1825 he was also active at the Theater an der Wien . In Vienna he experienced the climax of his acting career and became a crowd favorite. In 1833 he played the joiner's journeyman Leim in the world premiere of Johann Nestroy's posse Der böse Geist Lumpazivagabundus .
Standing in the shadow of Nestroy and becoming increasingly unsuccessful, he left the theater in der Josefstadt in 1846 and played at provincial theaters. From 1847 to 1849 he worked at the Carltheater , which he left after a dispute with the local director Carl Carl . Only after his death did he return to Vienna, where he ended his acting career due to illness in 1862 at the Theater am Franz-Josefs-Kai .
Hopp also wrote some antics himself. His first play was written in 1829. He was considered a folk poet who orientated himself on the tastes of the common people, and as a rival of Karl Haffner and Friedrich Kaiser . His most important works are the pieces Doctor Faust's House Cap and The Pelzpalatine und der Kachelofen , which premiered in 1840 . Nestroy played the main role in Hopp's adaptation of The Thirty-Year-Old ABC-Schütz , which is no longer preserved today .
Hopp's son Julius was a composer and conductor at the Theater an der Wien.
