Paulo Lins
Paulo Lins (* 1958 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian writer .
In 1997 he published his work Cidade de Deus ("The City of God"). The book was filmed in 2002 by Fernando Meirelles as City of God .
The novel The City of God describes the development of the eponymous favela Cidade de Deus in Rio de Janeiro, which was built in the 1960s as a social housing estate and more and more became a slum area. Lins drew his material both from his own childhood - he grew up in the Cidade de Deus - and from an academic paper on favelas.
