Nena's second solo album after Wunder gescheh'n was produced for the first time by Nena himself with Jürgen Dehmel . The Nena musicians Rolf Brendel and Jürgen Dehmel were involved as musicians and in the compositions , as well as Frank Becking (The Stripes, Riff ). The lyrics, characterized by “confident optimism”, come almost exclusively from Nena herself. The music and text for the title You Don't Have to Cry come from her hairstylist and set designer at the time, the Berlin scene hairdresser Jonny Pazzo. The recordings were produced in the Berlin Spliff Studio, where several Nena albums had already been created. It was mixed in Barbados in Eddy Grant's Blue Wave Studio. It contains the two single releases Bongo Girl and Sometimes a day is a whole life . Due to the lack of commercial success, the record contract with Epic Records was not extended.
Nena about the album: “ The reggae on this record was made there [Barbados]. Eddy himself had a lot of fun with the piece. "
reception
Alan Severa has reviewed the album for Allmusic with three out of five stars and certifies it a clear feeling of summer vacation ("the distinct feeling of a summer holiday album"). He emphasizes the title track with its African singing and Latin American percussion, but also notes a lack of originality (“lacking in originality”) in the album.
