Nena is the first studio album by the German pop group Nena and is also the name of the accompanying tour. The album, released in January 1983, contained the hit 99 Luftballons , which entered the US charts at the end of 1983 and was the first German-language title to reach number two there in March 1984.

background

The album was recorded in the Spliff Studio , the studio of the Spliff formation , in Berlin. The two spliff musicians Manfred Praeker and Reinhold Heil were hired as producers , Heil also produced the following two Nena albums ,? (Question mark) and fire and flame . The cover was photographed by Jim Rakete , who was also the band's manager .

There were three singles released, namely the 1982 pre-released Nur Traum , and 1983 99 Luftballons und Leuchtturm .

reception

99 Luftballons entered the US singles charts in December 1983 and reached number 2 on the hit list on March 3, 1984. Nena was awarded a gold record and a platinum record in 1983 . In Germany, the album was number one in the charts, where it could hold for nine weeks. Even 99 balloons reached the top position in the German charts, only dreamed of and lighthouse two square.
