Großtaxen Castle is elevated on a step in the north-west above the town. The first documentary mention refers to the year 1347. It was renovated in 1621 after a fire. The core of the east and south wing date from the 17th century; Parts of it possibly from the 16th century. The wings in the north and west, made of baroque flat bricks, were expanded in the 19th century.

The castle in Illmau, located to the east of the ridge-like extension, is a three-winged Renaissance castle with a mighty gate tower. The building was built for Zacharias Wochenitzki. It is designated with 1551, it was mentioned in a document as early as 1547. An earlier facility, mentioned in a document in 1337, served as a border fortress.

The local chapel, located at the tip of the fork in the edge road of Illmau, is a simple, flat-roofed building with a vaulted triangle, arched windows and a facade tower that protrudes over consoles and is crowned by a pyramid helmet. The baroque aedicule altar from around 1680 has cartilage flanks and a high relief of St. Mary with child in miraculous, conical robes in the style of the mid-18th century. A carved figure of St. Joseph with Baby Jesus from Kautzen was made at the end of the 17th / beginning of the 18th century. The baroque stalls are also part of the furnishings.

The slightly elevated parish church of St. John , with its side front forming the northern end of the triangular main square . Jakobus the Elder is originally a single-nave baroque building with a rectangular choir, which is Gothic in the core, and a ridge tower with chamfered sections from 1806/1807, which is crowned by an onion helmet. In the years 1868 to 1870 the church was widened to a three-aisled hall. Between the late baroque, simple extension of the former hall building in the west and the choir, the sides of the nave protrude like a risalit with their gable crown. The church is opened through arched windows and structured by cleaning bottles and romanizing arched friezes. The west facade is unadorned. The retracted, rectangular choir has pointed arched window frames from the 14th century from the Gothic core, modified flat arched windows and a walled-up lancet window in the east. There are various extensions to the north and south.

The rectory of Kautzen, built in 1714/1715, named 1787 after a renovation and rebuilt again in 1862, has an imperial eagle as a stucco relief on the facade .

The Nepomuk statue in Kautzen, first mentioned in 1734, originally stood near the Obermühle and was moved to its present location in 1960. The heavily algae and moss-covered monument was cleaned in 2010. On this occasion, his lost lantern was replaced by a new copper lantern.

The local chapel of St. Maria in Tiefenbach is a sleek rectangular building with a round top from 1834. The west tower you see here was built towards the end of the 19th century. It is accessible through a pointed arch portal and is crowned by a pointed gable helmet. The interior is vaulted. The neo-baroque altar has a picture of the Coronation of Mary, inscribed with Ms. Mayerhofer 1899 . Further furnishings include pictures of the Way of the Cross from around 1900 as well as reverse glass pictures from the second quarter of the 19th century.
