Waidhofen Castle is a late baroque four-wing building with a castle park to the north. The core is made up of parts of the medieval castle, which was built to end and reinforce the city fortifications on the eastern tip of the triangular castle town above the Thaya basin. The first documentary mention refers to the year 1171. In the second and third quarters of the 16th century extensive renovations were carried out, also in 1770 according to plans by the builder Andreas Zach . The shape of the highly standardized, two-storey, tile-roofed rectangular complex is aligned with the terrain through the basement and a slight bend in the southern front. The grooved ground floor has chamfered windows. On the upper floor, the window axes are emphasized by fields and cantilevers, and a surrounding cornice can be seen. The castle is accessible in the south through a segment arch portal in a portal block with stepping stones. In the passage there is a coat of arms of the Sprinzensteins from 1659.
