Hans Brandstetter (born January 23, 1854 in Michlbach , municipality of Hitzendorf , Styria , † January 4, 1925 in Graz ) was an Austrian sculptor and wood carver .

Life

Hans Brandstetter, son of the nail smith Peter Brandstetter and his wife Juliana Thurner, began (like later his son Wilhelm Gösser , 1881–1966 ) an apprenticeship with the Graz sculptor Jakob Gschiel (1821–1908). After further training in the arts and crafts association, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts first with Edmund Hellmer , then, in the next level, with Carl Kundmann . Brandstetter also spent study visits to Rome and Paris. After more than 20 years as a professor at the Graz State Trade School , he retired in 1914.
