history

Ortolfus de Waidehouven was mentioned in a document in 1171 . The castle became sovereign around 1220 and after 1341 was pledged to different owners. In 1604 it was sold to the Barons of Mollart , in 1621 to Sprinzenstein , 1679 to the Counts of Lamberg , and in 1737 to the Barons of Gudenus .

There was construction activity in the middle of the 16th century. In 1770, a largely new building was carried out over the old core according to plans by the builder Andreas Zach .

A palace park connects to the north of the late baroque four-wing building. The former Wienertor on the south-west corner was removed.

The shape of the highly standardized, two-storey, tile-roofed rectangular complex is aligned with the terrain through the basement and a slight bend in the southern front. The grooved ground floor has chamfered windows. On the upper floor, the window axes are accentuated by fields and cantilevered doors , and a surrounding cornice can be seen. The castle is accessible in the south through a segment arch portal in a portal block with stepping stones. The lower part of a former tower is included in the northeast.

In the passage there is a coat of arms stone Sprinzenstein from 1659.
