Sprinzenstein (noble family)
The Sprinzenstein , originally Ritz von Sprintzenstein (also Sprinzenstain; Rici, Ricci, Ricius, Ricz zum Spriczenstain) are an Austrian noble family that became extinct in 1970 in the male line. The daughter line of the Lamberg- Sprinzenstein went out in 1823, that of the Hoyos-Sprinzenstein still exists.
Origins
Ritz
The ancestors of the Ritz (Ricius, also: Rici, Ricci, Riccius) were a Jewish family of German origin in South Tyrol. The progenitor of the Ritz von Sprinzenstein is the Jewish convert and professor at the University of Pavia Paul Ritz ( Paulus Ricius , around 1480–1541 / 42) from South Tyrol. From 1514 Paul was the personal physician of Emperor Maximilian I as well as educator and advisor to Archduke Ferdinand (who later became Emperor Ferdinand I ). In 1529 Paul Ricius received the estate and Sprinzenstein Castle as a Passau fief. 1530 brought Emperor Charles V. Paul Ritz and his brother Peter Anton with the title of Sprinzenstein in the baron .
The Salzburg line, the descendants of Peter Anton, name themselves Ritz zu Grub (Grueb), zu Bürgelstein and zu Gartenau, respectively, and became extinct around 1708.
Ritz von Sprinzenstein, Sprinzenstein
Paul Ritz von Sprinzenstein married Blanca von Zimmer and had two sons: the older son Franz was a clergyman, the younger son Hironymus (~ 1510–1570) continued the line. In 1555, the two brothers were given permission to call themselves Baron von Sprinzenstein, discarding their gender names.
His son Alexander married Aemelia Fugger, the daughter of Johann Jakob Fugger , in 1582 . The other generations then held important offices in the Habsburg Empire.
In 1591 the four sons of Hieronymus received an improvement in the coat of arms by combining their own shield with that of the extinct Jöchl.
In 1646 he was raised to the rank of imperial count as Count von und zu Sprinzenstein and Neuhaus , in 1669 this line received the Bohemian Inkolat .
