Klaus Davidowicz

Klaus Samuel Davidowicz (born July 10, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German cultural scientist and professor of Jewish studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

Davidowicz studied Jewish Studies, Pedagogy and German Studies at the University for Jewish Studies and the University of Heidelberg from 1985 to 1991 . In 1991 he completed his master's degree with Maurice-Ruben Hayoun, Johann Maier (Jewish Studies) and Micha Brumlik (Education). In the same year he began his doctoral studies at the Vienna Jewish Studies, his doctorate in 1993, from 1994 to 1998 he was an assistant at the Institute for Jewish Studies. He completed his habilitation in 1998, was Associate Professor from 1998 to 2011 and has been Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna since October 2011. His main research interests are Jewish philosophy and intellectual history of the modern age as well as Kabbalah and Jewish film.

Since 1988 he has also given individual lectures and lecture series in adult education centers, educational institutions etc. in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. He is one of the directors of the “Jewish Film Club Vienna” and was a technical advisor for the multi-part TV documentary Die Juden, Geschichte einer Volkes (ARD / Arte 2007) and for the ORF documentary Faszination Kabbala (2012).
