The Drosendorf Castle is a castle in the town of Drosendorf-Zissersdorf in Lower Austria.

The renaissance castle is located on the eastern corner of the historic city, integrated into the city fortifications . The castle was first mentioned in 1180. The current shape dates from 1694, when it was rebuilt after a fire caused by a lightning strike. The tower was demolished in 1710.

The castle consists of four three-storey wings that form a square inner courtyard. The castle also houses a chapel, which was converted to Baroque style in 1681.

owner

From 1278 the Drosenburg dominion was owned by the Habsburgs , from whom it was always leased. From 1293 onwards, the Lords of Capelln , who supported the Habsburg Rudolf I in the battle of Dürnkrut and Jedenspeigen , had the rule in lease. Around 1355 the Lords of Wallsee are mentioned as tenants. In 1453 the rule went to the Eitzinger . Another owner was Johann Mrakesch von Noskau. In 1606 the castle came into the private ownership of the von Mollard family, who sold it to the Kurz counts in 1637. From this it passed through marriage to Ferdinand von Sprinzenstein, then to the Lamberg-Sprinzenstein family. It has been owned by the Hoyos-Sprinzenstein family since 1882 .

Todays use

At the end of the Second World War , the building was badly damaged. In 1960 the castle was converted into a bed and breakfast and some of it still functions as such. Since 1978 the castle has been leased to the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agricultural Workers , which operates an educational institution here.

The castle has been placed under protection by the Federal Monuments Office under the ID 31464.
