Thomas Kühtreiber

Thomas Kühtreiber (born March 8, 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian building historian and medieval archaeologist .

Life

Thomas Kühtreiber studied prehistory and early history at the University of Vienna and a combination of subjects from earth sciences, history and folklore at the University of Vienna on the subject of "Man - Work - Environment" and received his doctorate in 2007 on excavations at the Old University in Vienna (1997–2002) . From 1997 to 2012 he was lecturer for medieval and modern archeology at the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Vienna. Kühtreiber has been a member of the Institute for Reality Studies of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era (IMAREAL) since 1997, of which he was Managing Director from 2014 to 2019.

Thomas Kühtreiber has been the spokesman for the research network Interdisciplinary Regional Studies (first) since 2016. In addition, he has been Deputy Chairman of the Austrian Society for Medieval Archeology (ÖGM) since 2013. From 1999 to 2018 he was a member of the advisory board of the German Burgenvereinigung eV and from 1995 to 2002 a member of the advisory board of the Austrian Society for Prehistory and Early History.

In 2001 Kühtreiber was co-curator of the Lower Austrian provincial exhibition "Sein & Sinn - Burg & Mensch" together with Falko Daim .

His research focus is on European castle research and "built-up space". Since 1998 he has been the project manager of the Lower Austrian Castle Database .

Thomas Kühtreiber is married to the medieval archaeologist Karin Kühtreiber and has two children with her.
