The Altmark village of Groß Bierstedt is located three kilometers northwest of the municipality of Rohrberg and 17 kilometers southwest of the district town of Salzwedel . To the north of the street village lies the Bierstedter Holz forest area, which is part of the Salzwedel-Diesdorf nature reserve.

history

Groß Bierstedt was originally laid out as a round square village with a church on the square, as can be seen on the Urmes table sheet from 1823.

In 1281 de molendino Berstedt is mentioned, the mill at Bierstedt. The mention probably concerns Groß Bierstedt. Henricus Berstede is mentioned in a document in Salzwedel in 1284. This can also affect Klein Bierstedt.

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Wendischen Bierstede . Further mentions are 1381 at dorpe tho wendeschen beerstede and 1608 Wendisch Bierstedt . In 1804 it was finally called Groß Bierstedt, formerly Wendisch-Bierstedt .

Groß Bierstedt was originally a Rundlingsdorf consisting of farmhouses from Lower Saxony. It was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1850. The horseshoe shape encouraged the fire to spread. It was rebuilt in 1851. Today's Neudorf was built as a street village in the Franconian style.

Court Mountain "To the Linden"

On the court mountain Zu der Linden near Groß Bierstedt the dinging site of the Vogtei Salzwedel is said to have been. It is believed that there was also an old sacrificial site there. Wilhelm Zahn reported in 1909 by the court of justice for Linde: "After the oldest Brandenburg rights was the rebuke of a judgment, so the appellation , on the latch at Riewend in Brandenburg, the Krepe at Eichstedt to which Linde at Bierstedt , finally to the highest thing place, that is the Reich treasurer's chamber, that is at Tangermünde , so in the Sachsenspiegel . The court to der Linde was located in a forest belonging to Gross-Bierstedt, three kilometers north of this village, 1.8 kilometers west of Hohenlangenbeck, on a lonely hill that affords a wide view. "It is located in today's Haidberg forest and is 88 , 8 meters high. This corresponds to the information provided by Klaeden, who refers to the table sheet 1679, where the mountain is 87.7 meters high.

Landgraben near Groß Bierstedt

The Landgraben, a Landwehr , stretches from a break southeast of Peckensen on the border to Mehmker Holz through the forest area to Groß Bierstedt , where the double wall with the ditch in between then disappears in the field. Johann Friedrich Danneil suspects that the Landwehr continued to the southeast via Rohrberg, Ahlum and Tangeln.

Incorporations

On October 1, 1937, the communities of Groß Bierstedt and Klein Bierstedt from the Salzwedel district merged to form a community with the name Bierstedt . When the municipality of Bierstedt merged with other municipalities to form the new municipality of Rohrberg on January 1, 2009, the district of Groß Bierstedt became part of Rohrberg.
