Location of Klein Bierstedt in Saxony-Anhalt

Klein Bierstedt is a district of the municipality Rohrberg in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany.

geography

The Altmark village of Klein Bierstedt is about two kilometers northwest of the municipality of Rohrberg and 17 kilometers southwest of the district town of Salzwedel .

history

Klein Bierstedt was originally laid out as a small cul-de-sac village with a church, as can be seen on the Urmes table sheet from 1823.

The first documented mention of Klein Bierstedt is the mention of Biersted scilicet Teutonico or Bierstidde scilicet teutonico from 1304, when Friedrich , Bishop of Verden consecrated the two churches in Bierstedt. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Dutschen Birstede .

Further mentions are Deüdsche Biehrstede in 1591 , Teutsch Bierstedt in 1608 and finally in 1804 Kl. Bierstedt, formerly Deutsch Bierstedt .

Lafrohnberg and Bierstedt Castle

At Klein Bierstedt on the Lafronberg there is said to have been a castle, a forest or swamp castle. This is mentioned in 1352, followed by the siege and destruction.

The Lafrohnberg is a barely visible elevation on the field path from Klein Bierstedt to Rohrberg, about 300 meters south-southeast of the village. There are no more traces of attachment. Around 1870 the layout of the former castle is said to have still been recognizable. It must have been a relatively small castle with a circular floor plan in the middle of swampy meadows, i.e. a moated castle. Remains of the wall were also found later, which probably served as a substructure for a wooden superstructure.

The historian Peter Rohrlach comments: "Whether the Berstede Castle, mentioned in a document in 1352, has anything to do with this Bierstedt when the von Bartensleben and the von der Schulenburg conquered the Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg."

Incorporations

On October 1, 1937, the communities of Klein Bierstedt and Groß Bierstedt from the Salzwedel district merged to form a community with the name Bierstedt . When the municipality of Bierstedt merged with other municipalities to form the new municipality of Rohrberg on January 1, 2009, the Klein Bierstedt district became part of Rohrberg.
