Peckensen is a district of Diesdorf in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark village of Peckensen, a round square village with a church on the square, is located about 6 kilometers east of Diesdorf and 17 kilometers southwest of the district town of Salzwedel on the Molmker Bach.
The nature reserve Salzwedel-Diesdorf lies to the west.
Geology and infrastructure
Below Peckensen near Wiersdorf, at a depth of about 1300 meters, there is an underground storage facility consisting of five caverns with almost 400 million m³ of storage capacity, which was created in a Zechstein salt dome from 1969 when natural gas was extracted . The salt dome extends from Henningen in the north to south of Wüllmersen over 15 kilometers.
history
Peckensen was first mentioned in 1161 as Pychenusen , when Bishop Hermann von Verden confirmed a donation from the Count of Wertbeck over eight villages to the Diesdorf monastery .
In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Pekesen and Pekensen .
At the beginning of the 20th century there was still a water mill on the Molmker Bach in the northwest of the village, which was mentioned in 1740 with 15 residents.
Two kilometers south of the village on the edge of the forest is a former brickworks, which was named as early as 1842 and is still a homestead today.
It was not until 1958 that the first Type III agricultural production cooperative came into being, the LPG “Friendship”.
Incorporations
On July 1, 1974, the municipality of Peckensen was incorporated into the municipality of Abbendorf and thus dissolved. Peckensen became a district of Diesdorf on January 1, 1991 through the incorporation of Abbendorf into the community of Diesdorf.
