Fire and Flame is the third studio album by the German pop group Nena , released in June 1985 .
background
After the previous album was released with the title ? (Question mark) the group went on a tour through various European countries from March to May 1984 and performed in Denmark , Sweden , Great Britain and the Netherlands , among others . In October the band made seven concerts in Japan .
After the concert tour was over, the group and their producer Reinhold Heil went to the studio to record fire and flames . The recordings took place for the first time in different studios: In addition to the Spliff studio in Berlin, where the group had previously recorded their albums in full, the Mediterraneo studio on Ibiza and Heil's recording studio in Berlin were used.
The strings used for individual songs belonged to the Deutsche Oper Berlin . The recordings for the string instruments took place in the Sim studio in Berlin.
As a guest musician appeared Frank Ricotti ( percussion ), David Sanborn ( saxophone ) and Lisa Dalbello , Cosa Rosa , Gale Robinson, Ramesh B. Weeratunga , and Ron Rudolph ( Backing Vocal ) with.
The cover photo, which for the first time no longer showed the whole band, but a portrait of the singer Nena Kerner , after whom the group was named, was photographed by Jim Rakete .
As singles , the titles Somehow, somewhere, sometime , Fire and Flame, House of the Three Suns , Young as you and you know love were not decoupled. Maxi singles were released from all titles :
- Somehow, somewhere, sometime appeared as a 7:15 minute long "Special 12 ″ Dance Mix"
- Fire and Flame had a length of 6:32 minutes
- the "Special Dance Mix" by House of the Three Suns was 6:38 minutes long
- the maxi version of Jung wie du was 5:09 minutes long
- You don't know love was released in spring 1986 in a new single mix, the maxi version was 6:05 minutes long
The CD version of the album contained the maxi versions of these songs instead of the regular versions of Somehow, Somewhere, Sometime and Jung wie du . The album was also released in English under the title It's All in the Game .
reception
Somehow, somewhere, sometime was released as a single on September 24, 1984 and reached number 3 in the German charts .
The single Feuer und Flamme was released on May 13, 1985 and reached number 8. When the album was released on June 24, it took three weeks until it entered the German album charts on July 15, 1985 at number 6. It reached number two on July 29, 1985 and stayed in the charts for a total of 18 weeks.
House of Three Suns was published on July 29, 1985, but only reached number 43 in the German singles charts.
