Reef (band)
Riff was a German rock band founded in the mid-1980s by guitarist Frank Becking , drummer Volker Britz and bassist Burkhard Westerhoff. Later, the Newcastle-born singer William Lennox joined them.
history
Frank Becking had played in various bands, including "The Ramblers" and "The Stripes" (with Nena ). William Lennox was the singer in the band "Days of Sorrow" and Volker Britz had sung X-Quadrat in the NDW band. In the beginning, Frank Becking was lead singer and guitarist at the same time . After William Lennox joined the band, the band recorded the album Mission Love for the label BMG Ariola / RCA . It was produced in London by producer Zeus B. Held . Next were remixes of some tracks of the album in the Ardent Studios in Memphis (Tennessee) produced by John Hampton. Appearances in Germany and Switzerland followed; among others in the opening act of the Australian band Hoodoo Gurus and the British band New Model Army . When the album Mission Love was released in the UK in 1989 on Music for Nations , the band Riff moved from Germany to London. The group also gave several concerts in Great Britain; among others with the American band "Drive She Said". In London, the group played in the Marquee Club and the "Hippodrome".
The second album was produced by John Hampton at Ardent Studios. The drummer Volker Britz and the bassist Burkhard Westerhoff left the band after this production and were replaced by Thomas Gareth on bass and drummer Rolf Brendel . They released the album Fever in 1991 under their new band name Crash n 'Burn .
