occupation

Richy Guitar is a German film by Michael Laux from 1984 (theatrical release in the Federal Republic: July 7, 1985). The film became particularly well-known because the musician Farin Urlaub played the leading role and the rest of the cast of the band “ Die Ärzte ” ( Bela B. and Sahnie ) as well as other well-known German musicians, such as B. Nena , played roles in the film.

action

The film is about the young guitarist Richard (Richy) Schrader, who tries to get to know his bandmates in Berlin, but repeatedly fails due to chronic lack of money. Richy dreams of a successful music career as a guitarist. With his friends, the drummer Igor and the bassist Hans, he decides to start a band, but that starts the big chaos. His parents urge him to look for a job and finally go to work, but Richy is hoping for a big breakthrough as a musician. When he finally runs out of money and also has problems with his girlfriend Anja, his last hope is a job as a roadie for Nena, so that he can at least save his music equipment.

background

During the film, Richard Schrader's band played the tracks “Teenager Liebe” and “Grace Kelly” from the band Die Ärzte from their 1983 EP Too good to be true! . The distinctive, often alluded melody is its title "Doctors Theme" from the album Debil from 1984. On the newer edition of the album under the name Devil , the three songs were re-released in 2005 in the versions as they can be heard in the film.

Nena, Plan B , Notorische Reflexe and Roy Dreck have guest appearances in the film.

The film was shot on original locations in West Berlin , on Wilmersdorfer Straße , on Kurfürstendamm , in front of the former Bertolt-Brecht-Oberschule (until 2007) in Spandau, at the AVUS and the Yorckbrücken . Nena's appearance will take place in the Metropol on Nollendorfplatz .

The doctors who can be seen in the leading roles describe the film today as a "sin of youth". Among the band's fans, however, it is considered a cult film. Farin Urlaub's acting performance, which some critics have categorized as terribly bad, is well received by the fans. Farin describes his acting performance as "horrific" and the story as "outrageous and stolen". He also finds director Michael Laux unsympathetic. However, he claims in an interview (included as an extra on the DVD) that he plays cards with the doctors on a weekly basis.

In October 1985 the film was first released on video, since then there have been numerous new releases on VHS and from 2002 also on DVD, all of which are unabridged. Only the TV broadcasts have been shortened so far. A corresponding publication on Blu-ray Disc finally took place in 2011, but without any bonus material.
