Ildikó von Kürthy (born January 20, 1968 in Aachen ) is a German writer and journalist .

Life

The daughter of the Hungarian-born university professor Tamás G. Kürthy, who taught pedagogy at RWTH Aachen University , and a bookseller grew up in Aachen-Laurensberg . After graduating from the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen , she attended the Henri-Nannen-School for journalism in Hamburg, after which she worked for the women's magazine Brigitte . In 1993 she was awarded the Axel Springer Prize in the "Print" category for her article , Nobody dies lonely here, through the Aachen Hospice Haus Hörn , which was published in this magazine . In 1994 the article received second place in the media award of the independent welfare organization . From 1996 to 2005 Ildikó von Kürthy was editor of Stern magazine in the “Culture and Entertainment” section.

In 1999 she published her first book with the novel Mondscheintarif , which was filmed for the cinema in 2001 under the direction of Ralf Huettner . The total circulation of her eight books to date, which have been translated into around 30 languages, is more than six million. The heroines of her humorous novels are modern young women who describe their own weaknesses with wit and self-irony and who argue about the mishaps in dealing with men. Her novel Freizeichen , published in 2003, was awarded third place in 2004 at the first DeLiA literary prize; however, she had to share it with two other authors. In August 2012, her book Under the Heart: Views of a Newborn Mother was published, which offers humorous insights into the life of an expectant mother. In March 2016, her first play, Liebeslügen oder Treue ist keine Solution, premiered at the Ernst-Deutsch-Theater in Hamburg.

In December 2007 she hosted two episodes of the RBB talk show Dickes B together with Jörg Thadeusz . Between 2005 and 2010 she was a guest on the talk shows Thadeusz , Beckmann , Im Palais , Tietjen and Hirschhausen and Kölner Treff .

Von Kürthy continues to write for magazines as a freelance writer. She has been a regular columnist for Brigitte since 2009 . Since 2007 she has also been a member of the "Print" jury of the Axel Springer Prize.

Private

Ildikó von Kürthy lives in Hamburg with her husband, the book author and freelance journalist Sven Michaelsen , who also worked for Stern for over 20 years . She is the mother of two sons who were born in 2006 and 2010.
