Dickes B is a song by the Berlin dancehall reggae formation Seeed in collaboration with the Jamaican dancehall deejay Black Kappa . The group released the song in 2001 as the third single from their album New Dubby Conquerors .

content

Seeed sings about the city of Berlin in this piece , so the refrain reads:

"Thick B, up on the Spree
in summer you are doing well and in winter it hurts
Mama Berlin, brick and gasoline,
we love your scent when we move around the houses"

Most of the song is written in German, except for the English rap part by Black Kappa.

Effect and reception

In the 2001 annual charts of the Intro magazine, Dickes B was ranked 32nd. In the 2001 Spex critic annual charts, Dickes B was ranked 14th. Readers of Tip magazine voted Dickes B second in the choice of the Berlin anthem. A talk show on rbb television that premiered in 2008 is named after the song.

At Seeed's live concerts, the song was almost always used as a conclusion.

The underlying Frogass riddim was used by, among others, Benjie (Don't Follow You) and Black Kappa (Uman) .

In the song Fieber , included on the album Stadtaffe , Pierre Baigorry, alias Peter Fox, takes up the chorus of Dickes B again, but changes its content:

"Big B on the Spree, the winter is good, the summer hurts, the
sun is beating, the garbage cans are smoking
'Unter den Linden' means 'Under the Palms'"
