Mehrzad Marashi
Mehrzad Marashi ( Persian مهرزاد مرعشی* 20th September 1980 in Iran ) is a German soul - and R & B - singer of Iranian descent. He is the winner of the seventh season of the talent show Deutschland sucht den Superstar . At first, Marashi also appeared under the name Marasco .
Life
Mehrzad Marashi grew up in the Iranian capital Tehran until he was six years old. His father was in the professional military during the Shah's time. In 1986 the family emigrated to Germany for political reasons, where Hamburg became their new home. At the age of 13, Marashi entered the gospel choir of his school. He graduated from the comprehensive school in Horn. He then studied singing and piano for four semesters at the Singing Academy, but two semesters were missing for a degree.
As a result, he made several attempts to gain a foothold in the music business. Under the stage name Marasco , he published his first self-produced recordings at Warner Music Group in 2006, but they were not commercially successful. One recording that was also released as a single is She's Gone , a cover version of She's Like the Wind by Patrick Swayze .
Before he applied to DSDS, he had a karaoke bar, but it went bankrupt. For the last six months he lived on unemployment benefit II . Marashi describes himself as apolitical, but feels connected to the Iranian people. Today he likes to wear the green bracelet of the Iranian protest movement of 2009 when performing .
Germany seeks the superstar
In 2009 he applied for the seventh season of the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar , from which he emerged as the winner. In the final, he prevailed against Menowin Fröhlich , although he was number one in the caller voting in all previous motto shows, except in the top 15 show, in which Mehrzad Marashi took first place. Immediately before the final, the Bild newspaper had called on its readership to vote for Marashi.
On April 10, 2010, Marashi made a marriage proposal to his girlfriend in a live broadcast on DSDS, which she accepted. On July 7, 2010, both married in Hamburg.
One day after the final broadcast, Marashi reached number one in the German download charts with the song Don't Believe . At the same time, he set a new download record, until then no other song in Germany sold more often than Don't Believe by Marashi within a day . A few weeks later he set another record by being in the charts for longer than any DSDS winner before with his single.
