Hasso Menowin Fröhlich (born September 4, 1987 in Munich ), stage name Menowin, is a German pop singer . In 2005 and 2010 he took part in the talent show Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS), which was broadcast by the German TV station RTL .

Musical career

Menowin Fröhlich founded his first band V9 together with friends in the late 1990s . After a few regional successes, they won a talent competition, in which the band won their first professional record.

In 2005 he took part in the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar . He prevailed in the preliminary rounds and moved into the final of the last 20 candidates. Due to his arrest, he had to stop participating.

In the summer of 2009, Fröhlich competed again at Deutschland sucht den Superstar , reached the finals and lost to Mehrzad Marashi on April 17, 2010 , after he had always had the most of the last ten candidates ("motto shows") in the previous weeks Had received caller votes. Immediately before the finale, Bild-Zeitung called on its readers to vote for Marashi, calling this a "campaign against Menowin Fröhlich".

Following the "DSDS", the juror Volker Neumüller announced that he would take over management for both finalists. Fröhlich was also contractually bound to Richard Lugner at times . The contract with the Viennese building contractor included appearances in Germany, Austria and Mallorca. The series of performances on Mallorca ended prematurely after two concerts after Fröhlich had been booed by the audience. Later, the collaboration with Lugner ended completely due to disputes.

On April 8, 2011, the single If You Stayed was released, which reached number 21 in the German charts in the first week . The publisher E. Driediger from Bad Essen published a biography of Fröhlich in May 2011, which bears the title I had to lose to win .

In November 2011 Menowin Fröhlich released his second single Waiting for Christmas , which reached number 27 in the German charts. His first Welcome Back concert took place on April 14, 2012 in the Live Music Hall disco in Cologne and 1,200 tickets were sold out.

On June 15, 2012, the single Round 'n' Round was released . His first album, White Chocolate , followed on June 29, 2012 , which went straight to position eleven in the charts in Germany, but fell to number 76 in the second week. The second single Bad , which was only released as a download, did not reach the charts.

On August 12, 2015, he moved in as a candidate for Celebrity Big Brother (3rd season). He left the house after 17 days in second place. He then released the single One Step Closer , which, however, missed the chart entry.

In April 2016 he took part in the big ProSieben Völkerball Championship together with many celebrities .

Together with his partner, he took part in the reality show Das Sommerhaus der Stars - Kampf der Promipaare in 2019 .

From March 9, 2020, Fröhlich took part as an additional celebrity candidate in the 13th season of Big Brother , but voluntarily dropped out two weeks later due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Criminal proceedings

In December 2005, Fröhlich was sentenced to two years in prison for dangerous assault and fraud , which he reported in interviews. The outstanding probation of a remaining sentence of 313 days was revoked on July 23, 2010 by the Darmstadt District Court for violating the probation conditions. Since Fröhlich did not start the sentence voluntarily by February 15, 2011, as required, an enforcement arrest warrant was issued and Fröhlich was arrested the following day in Dortmund-Wellinghofen and taken to the correctional facility.

On May 17, 2011, Fröhlich was sentenced to a suspended sentence for assault. An application for early release was rejected on August 30, 2011. He was released on December 20, 2011.

In February 2017, the Heidelberg District Court sentenced Fröhlich to one year in prison without parole for driving under the influence of drugs.

Personal

Fröhlich comes from a Sinti family. Fröhlich got his middle name “Menowin” based on the name of the violin virtuoso Yehudi Menuhin .

Fröhlich has five children. The youngest was born in October 2018. The rapper Sido is his second cousin .
