What Is Love (English for: " Was ist Liebe ") is the title of a Eurodance song recorded in 1992 and number one hit by pop singer Haddaway from Trinidad and Tobago .
Creation and publication
The title was written and produced by "Dee Dee Halligan" and "Junior Torello", the pseudonyms for the successful German music producers and authors Tony Hendrik and Karin Hartmann-Eisenblätter. The simple text is about the question of what love is. The protagonist describes in the song that his feelings are not reciprocated, although he tries very hard to convey to his supposed partner that he desires her. In the chorus he repeatedly urges her not to hurt him any further. Haddaway's voice is underlaid with an unusually large amount of echo . Keyboards are played on the December 1992 recording Alex Trime (Alexander Strasser-Hain), Lisa Noya can be heard as the background voice.
