Cimahi on the map of Indonesia |
Cimahi is a city in Indonesia . It is located in the province of Jawa Barat (West Java) on Java , Indonesia's most populous island with well over 120 million inhabitants. Cimahi has now grown together with the much larger and better known Bandung , was also incorporated until 2001, but has since been a separate administrative unit as an autonomous city. The population is 493,698 (2005). Cimahi's main industry is the textile industry. The city is also home to one of the largest military bases in Indonesia. A Japanese internment camp was located in Cimahi during World War II.
geography
Geographical location
Cimahi lies together with Bandung and some other communities on a highland plain in the province of West Java, which is almost completely enclosed by volcanic chains in the north and south. Cimahi is located in the western part of the highland plain and was therefore a transit point for travelers between the capital Jakarta and the provincial capital Bandung for a long time. The place is at an altitude of about 645 meters in the east and rises to about 950 meters on the north-west side.
climate
Cimahi is just a little less than 7 ° south of the equator . This means that there is a tropical, humid and warm climate all year round. Due to the altitude, however, it is significantly less hot than in Jakarta, only about 130 kilometers away. The daily average temperatures fluctuate little with a minimum of 26.7 ° C in January and a maximum of 29.2 ° C in September. Especially during the night, temperatures often drop to well below 20 ° C, but averages around 18 ° C. The rainy season extends from October to mid-May.
education
In addition to numerous primary and secondary schools, Cimahi also has some higher education institutions. The most important ones include the Institute for Metrology and the Technical Education Development Center (TEDC) Bandung, which mainly oversees the advanced training of teachers from state vocational schools and other technical facilities. The TEDC is also supported by the German government in cooperation with the Center for International Migration and Development (CIM).
tourism
Apart from a Dutch military cemetery, Cimahi offers little of interest to non-Indonesian tourists. However, they visit the small town in the west of Bandung regularly on weekends. Tourists from Jakarta , which is only a two-hour drive away, are particularly frequent. Popular destinations are the Rumah Stroberi (the strawberry house), a small amusement park in the north of Cimahi, and a little further north, the beautiful hiking trails lined with waterfalls, rice fields, small streams and deep gorges. There is also a rally track for small off-road vehicles very close by.
In addition to the actual attractions, there are also some hotels that are mainly frequented during the weekend, including as a cheaper starting point for excursions to the neighboring Bandung or to the active house volcano Tangkuban Perahu , which can be reached in just 40 minutes by car or motorcycle is.
