Jack Jersey
Jack Jersey , real name: Jack Willem de Nijs , (born July 18, 1941 in Cimahi , Dutch East Indies , † May 26, 1997 in Roosendaal , Netherlands ) was a Dutch singer , lyricist , composer and producer .
Act
As a child, de Nijs already played in a small music group on his ukulelebanjo . In 1951 his parents moved from the Dutch East Indies to the Netherlands. During de Nijs went to school (Hogere burger school), he founded "The Dixie Stampers" a Dixieland - band . After attending a hotel school, he started a new group called "The Four Sweeters". However, this did not have much success. The following years with other bands did not bring great success either: "Jack & Woody" (inspired by the Everly Brothers ) and "Jack Dens & the Shallows". In 1963 "The Firestring" and a year later "The Flames" with a different line-up. In 1965 he performed with the group "The Rhythm Brothers" in Germany and until 1967 he played with "The Loosers".
De Nijs had his first Top 40 hit as a songwriter in 1969 with Oh Antoinette , sung by Leo den Hop. With the songs Gina Lollobrigida and De Fles he was again successful. After 1971 he decided to only sing in English and at times used the stage name "Ruby Nash".
With the former backing band of Elvis Presley , The Jordanaires , he took in Nashville on a live LP. He wrote and composed songs, among others for the Dutch singers Nick MacKenzie and Andre Moss.
On German television he was seen among others with the title 6,3,7,8,4 in the show Musikladen . He had one of his greatest successes as a producer with the teeny band The Shorts ( Comment ca va ).
Awards
Jack de Nijs has received numerous awards: Platinum 16 times in total, including twice for Ray Miller's cover versions of his songs in Germany, three times for his work on André Moss' album Ella and twice in the Netherlands and France as the producer of the single Comment ça va der Band The Shorts . There were also about 30 gold records and repeatedly honors as five times the "Golden Dog," and His Master's Voice ( The voice of his master) called EMI / Bovema and the freedom of the Catalan town Llançà in Spain.
Trivia
Jack Willem de Nijs got his stage name "Jack Jersey" in 1961 from his father. He considered the pseudonym suitable for an international singer and lyricist.
