Dietmar Loeffler (born October 3, 1961 in Tübingen ) is a German pianist , composer , director and playwright. Dietmar Loeffler studied piano and conducting. He is one of the most versatile artists and musicians in the German theater scene. He combines a well-founded classical education with curiosity about new content and forms.

Training and employment in the classic area

He received his training as a concert pianist at the music academies in Trossingen with Eugen Frosch, in Hamburg with Volker Banfield , at the Ecole Normale in Paris with Vlado Perlemuter and finally in the master class of the Zurich Conservatory with Irwin Gage . He studied chamber music with Ralf Gothóni at the Hamburg University of Music. Loeffler was a scholarship holder of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Bosch Foundation, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and lecturer at the Lübeck University of Music for song interpretation.

After winning various prizes in competitions, he followed suit as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. Dietmar Loeffler worked with classical singers such as B. Camilla Nylund , Sybilla Rubens, Tom Krause , Oliver Widmer and Jochen Kupfer , the violinists Christiane Edinger and Thomas Goldschmid, and the reciters Angela Winkler , Ulrich Tukur and Gerd Westphal . As a result, numerous CD recordings were made, including by the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft.

In the mid-1990s, his artistic activity expanded into the field of musicals as a conductor and musical director ('The Beauty and the Beast', 'The Lion King'), as well as in independent productions such as “ Dominique Horwitz sings Jaques Brel” and in the collaboration with André Heller for the touring production “Wintergarten”.

Own works for the theater sector

In 2001 the Bremen Schauspielhaus commissioned him to develop a play entitled "All Inclusive" and to direct it musically. In 2002 he conceived the 1930s revue "A Piece from Heaven" for the Jewish Culture Days Berlin, which premiered at the Deutsches Theater Berlin with Katja Riemann , Imogen Kogge , Anika Mauer , Natalia Wörner , Burghart Klaußner and Max Hopp .

In addition to his concert activities, he still works as musical director, composer, author and director on numerous German stages, such as B. the Staatstheater Kassel , Grillotheater Essen , Schauspiel Frankfurt , Schauspielhaus Bochum , Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and at the Hamburg Thalia Theater. The development of his own creative visions is now the focus of his artistic work.

In 2006, the world premiere of his musical comedy “Men Supply Measures” at the Schauspiel Frankfurt was awarded the Hessian Theater Prize.

In 2008 Dietmar Loeffler composed the music for the theater version of Leo Tolstoi's "Anna Karenina". This production was awarded the 1st INTHEGA prize.

For the Hamburger Kammerspiele he wrote and directed the Italian comedy “Pasta e Basta” in 2009 and the musical satire “Sylt - a mistake of God?” In 2012.

With “Pasta e Basta” Dietmar Loeffler succeeded in creating his own genre between operetta, musical and drama: the pocket musical. This musical comedy tells a self-contained story in which text, acting and music have equal proportions. Current topics from interpersonal and socio-political areas form the content basis.

Examples of this form of theater work are the family drama "Mama hats the blues and papa wants to celebrate" (Theater Philharmonie Thuringia) , the farce about the customs of the entertainment industry "Der Schlagerexorzist" (Schlossparktheater Berlin) , the problem area musical "Bauch bein Po" ( City Theater Schaffhausen). “Die Große Freiheit” ( Hamburg Theaterschiff ) deals with the global movement of refugees and combines Arabic-English music with German sea shanties.

Dietmar Loeffler works on his own pieces with artists such as B. Ulla Meinecke , Ella Endlich , Pe Werner , Jasmin Wagner , Carolin Fortenbacher , Marion Martienzen , Anika Lehmann , Sandra Maria Schoener , Katharina Abt , Graziella Rossi, Viola von der Burg , Tommaso Cacciapuoti , Tim Grobe,   Andreas Grötzinger , Sascha Rotermund , Delio Malär and Stephan Schad together.

He and the director Erik Gedeon have had a longstanding artistic collaboration since 2003, which has resulted in numerous productions. He can be seen as a pianist and actor at the Thalia Theater Hamburg in the legendary cult evening 'Thalia Vista Social Club'. With the director of the Rigiblick Theater, Daniel Rohr , he has been performing the duo evenings "Azzurro" and "Mendocino" since 2007. Since 2016 he has been working and playing with the cabaret artist and singer Michael Frowin .

As a composer, Dietmar Loefflers wrote for numerous theater productions as well as for films such as “Der Landarzt”, “ Yella ”, and “ Rosenstrasse ”.

In 2019 Dietmar Loeffler acquires the tour rights for the Ufa classic "Die Drei von der Gasstelle" as a producer. Directed by Wolf-Dietrich Sprenger and the stage set by Achim Römer, the new version of the operetta had its world premiere at the Fürth Theater.

With “Die Winterreise des Junge Werther” (Stadttheater Schaffhausen) Dietmar Loeffler turns back to classical subjects and combines his work as an author with that of the classical song pianist.

Since 2012 Dietmar Loeffler has directed the “DamenLikörChor”, the only cabaret choir in Germany.

Dietmar Loeffler lives in Hamburg, is married and has three children.
