Mr. President [ ˌmɪstɐˈprɛzidɛnt ] was a German music group of the Eurodance style .
Band history
The group Mr. President came from Bremen and originally consisted of the two dancers and singers T-Seven (Judith Buthmann, née Hinkelmann, further stage name Judith Hildebrandt; * October 26, 1976 in Bremen), Lady Danii (Daniela Haak; * 14 July 1973 in Bremen) and the rapper Sir Prophet (George Jones). The formation emerged from the Techno project Satellite 1, founded in 1991 by DJs Jens Neumann and Kai Matthiesen , who produced the band.
After the local broadcaster Radio Essen first presented the song Up'n Away in its listener hit parade "Jukebox Charts" in 1994, the track was voted number 1 by listeners and stayed there for several weeks. Up'n Away made it to number 12 in the German charts and was awarded a gold record in 1995 - the title is one of the few records to have received this award without being in the top ten.
With the onset of this first success, George Jones had to leave the project due to internal discrepancies in autumn 1994 and was replaced after a short time by Lazy Dee (Delroy Rennalls; born October 30, 1966 in Birmingham).
In the summer of 1996, Coco Jamboo managed to hold second place in the German charts for several weeks, while the song took first place in other countries. In Great Britain it reached number eight, in France and the USA the top 30. At the end of the summer, Coco Jamboo and I Give You My Heart also made it into the top 10. After the ballad show Me the Way and a worldwide breakthrough with the album We See the Same Sun returned to the charts in the summer of 1997 with another summer hit : Jojo Action made it to fourth place, Take Me to the Limit reached number 11 a little later. In 1999 the album Space Gate was promoted fifth on the album charts.
After this album Hildebrandt left the group in favor of her solo career, she was replaced by Nadia Ayche. After long studio work and numerous appearances, Mr. President released the song Love, Sex & Sunshine in 2003 with a new singer, Myra Beckmann. Nadia Ayche left the band in 2002. The following album Forever & One Day was only released in Japan , as Beckmann left the band in autumn 2003 for health reasons. Her successor was Franziska "Franzi" Frank, who appeared in the first Popstars season. In 2005, the single Sweat (A La La La La Long) , a cover version of the Inner Circle classic, was released as a special download single on iTunes . Lazy decided to work on his own musical project and left the band in early 2007. Danii and Franzi decided to go their own way professionally.
At 90s festivals only Lazy Dee appears under the name LayZee and with the songs of Mr. President.
As part of the 2015/16 New Year's Eve concert, he appeared at the Brandenburg Gate in the ZDF program Willkommen in Berlin.
criticism
In 1997 Hildebrandt and Haak were accused of not singing themselves, but of using the ghost singers Caren Miller and Anne Schröder. The starting point for this allegation were the full playback appearances that are common in pop music and the sometimes different voices in a cappella interludes. The background, however, was the (widespread in the industry) use of sound technology aids in studio recordings. In an interview with the TV broadcaster VIVA, the producers clearly stated that they would rather rework the pitch technically than burden their singers with repetitions for hours.
In 2014, NWZonline.de , the online branch of the Nordwest-Zeitung , stated in an article about Caren Miller that she was a studio singer and co-composer with Mr. President. The fact that only Hildebrandt and Haak appeared on stage did not bother her, according to her own statements, as it was just stress for the two front women. In 2000 she left the band at the same time as Hildebrandt.
Private
In June 1998, Hildebrandt and Haak posed naked in Playboy magazine , on the cover of which they were also shown. This was a novelty as the June cover was actually reserved for the " Playmate of the Year".
Hildebrandt is a member of the rock band T-Seven, which is also characterized by electro and punk influences. She also moderates her own program on the Energy Bremen radio station .
Haak works as a fashion designer and sells the collections of her label HAAK Design. With her ex-husband (marriage: December 2008, separation 2010), the boxer Markus Beyer , she ran the artist agency 12rounds.
After Beckmann left Mr. President, she was back on stage with the Coyote Ugly Girls , of which she was once part of the original cast. She runs the Coyote Ugly Bar in Koblenz.
Rennalls opened his own recording studio in which he writes and produces songs. The studio is located in Peppermint Jam , Hanover.
Jones works as a fitness trainer and publishes his own training DVDs.
Neumann works as a producer and consultant in the field of podcasting .
