A perfume is a company in the retail , the customers perfumes , soaps and cosmetics offering all kinds of purchase, the odor can change the body's odor. In addition to sole traders, chain stores and specialist departments in department stores also act as perfumeries. There are around 2,900 specialist shops in the Federal Republic of Germany . According to its federal association, the industry achieved sales of 2.52 billion euros in 2003. Decorative cosmetics (13 percent), personal care (6 percent) and other goods (13 percent) were other sales drivers. Prestige products with a volume share of 10 percent make up 23 percent of sales.

Oldest owner-run perfumery

The oldest perfumery in Germany is located in Cologne in the historic Farina House. There JB Farina founded his company for "french stuff" in 1709 . The offer included perfumes, silk , jewelry and other luxury items. On August 1, 1709, the shop was opened in Cologne's old town. From 1714, after the younger brother, the perfumer Johann Maria Farina , joined the company, the in-house production of fragrances began. The company's best-known product is Eau de Cologne . Thus, Farina is today not only the oldest perfumery in Germany, but also the oldest existing perfume factory in the world.

In Germany, according to the Bundesverband Parfümerien eV, total sales in perfumery retail in 2011 were around 2.80 billion euros and in 2009 comprised around 2,700 stores with around 18,300 employees. The Douglas perfumery is in Germany with around 35 percent market leader.
