The Mini Playback Show is an entertainment show that was broadcast on RTL from December 31, 1990 to December 4, 1998 , and in which children imitated well-known hits and their performers. The show is based on the Dutch show of the same name (1985-1998) developed and hosted by Henny Huisman.

Shipment process

The show was moderated by Marijke Amado . Before each performance, she chatted with the respective child and chose an outfit that was appropriate for the artist to be imitated. The child then went through the magic door, later magic ball and magic tunnel, came out again in the selected outfit and stepped onto the stage to perform his selected hit as a playback . After the performance, each child came before a jury, which always consisted of three celebrities, and was mostly showered with praise. If critical statements were made anyway, they were cut out. In the end, the jury had to choose first to third place in the first seasons, later there was only one winner. The “losers” mostly received consolation prizes , but this varied. Sometimes all participants received additional prizes, sometimes just the losers.

The recording proceeded according to a different pattern. First the conversations in the “mini shop” were recorded in the block, then the block with the individual appearances. The opening of the show was filmed between the talks and appearances. After the performance block, the jury withdrew and the award ceremony was recorded.

In the last season - now under Jasmin Wagner - the audience (without the relatives of the children) chose the winner and the program ended with the winning title, no longer with the final song.

The stage sets also changed over time. Where the “transformation” from child to star took place behind a magic door in the first broadcasts (1990–1992) , this was done between 1993 and 1995 in a magic ball. This was followed by a magic tunnel (1996–1998) and finally - under Jasmin Wagner (1998) - a rocket.

The Mini Playback Show always ended with a final song that contained the message that all participants were winners, even if only one could win. Due to low audience ratings, the program was revised in 1998, and the presenter was also changed: Marijke Amado was replaced by Jasmin Wagner (Blümchen). However, this quickly turned out to be a flop, after just a few months the program was completely discontinued.

National versions of this show were broadcast in nine other countries. There was also a “Mini Playback Show” in Belgium on the Flemish TV station VTM .

The most famous participants are Alexander Klaws and Anna-Maria Zimmermann . This also includes Hila Bronstein ( Bro'Sis ) and Eric Benz .

Closing song

The final song was written by Jürgen Triebel , who was often seen on the show's jury in the first season. It contained the educational statement that not only was the actual winner of the show “Sieger”, but that the courage to perform alone crowns you with the “winner”. The song was only sung in the shows moderated by Marijke Amado. After the first season, the song was "spiced up". A line of text before the chorus and some passages in the instrumental part (moderation) of the song were omitted. The very last lines of text were also omitted and replaced by a repetition of the chorus text. In the reruns of the show on Super RTL, the song was usually shortened or cut out entirely from the episode.

Special programs

Between 1994 and 1997, a total of five "celebrity editions" of the Mini Playback Show were produced. This variant was moderated by Linda de Mol and Rudi Carrell .
